Kai Mai

Kai was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia where he spent most of his life waiting for the day he could leave. He took the soonest chance he saw and moved to Seattle where he did his undergrad at the University of Washington. During his time there, despite having no connection to his degree, he took a dinosaur class that unexpectedly ended up being pivotal for the team at Seattle Rehab Specialists.
Kai’s previous work experience almost entirely involved being in climbing gyms. He fell in love with climbing, the community and everything that came with it. But with aspirations of pursuing a career in medicine, he decided it was time to take his first step into the healthcare industry. However, coming to SRS was not a fully conscious decision. He thought he was just accepting a part-time job at a front desk, but what he received was far beyond that. He was met by a family of some of the craziest, most talented, diverse and passionate people he has ever met. Kai pursued a degree in GWSS because he wanted to be more than just a body working within the system of healthcare. As a queer person of color, he wanted to surround himself with providers who cared, who enjoyed their work and were passionate about being able to serve and provide for the communities around them. And that’s exactly what he found with Seattle Rehab Specialists. He found a space that allowed him to foster his desire to create a more genuinely open and inclusive space where truly all individuals are seen and heard and are provided the care they need and want from the moment they make contact to their final discharge appointment.
