Remote Therapy & Monitoring: How Physical Therapy Continues Between Appointments

When most people think about physical therapy, they picture what happens during their appointment. But the truth is, much of your progress happens between visits.

The exercises you complete at home, the way your symptoms change throughout the week, and the consistency of your recovery all play an important role in helping you reach your goals.

That’s where Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) comes in.

At Seattle Rehab Specialists, we use RTM to stay connected with patients throughout their recovery. Not just during clinic visits, but while they’re doing the work that matters most at home.

What Is Remote Therapeutic Monitoring?

Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) is a secure, insurance-approved service that allows your physical therapy team to monitor your recovery outside of scheduled appointments.

Using the Wibbi app, you can access your personalized home exercise program, track your progress, and share updates on how you’re feeling. Your care team reviews this information to make sure your treatment continues moving in the right direction.

Instead of waiting until your next appointment to discuss challenges or improvements, RTM helps your therapist stay informed throughout your recovery.

Why Your Home Exercise Program Matters

Physical therapy doesn’t stop when you leave the clinic.

Your home exercise program is designed to reinforce what you’ve worked on during appointments, build strength, improve mobility, and help you recover more efficiently.

When you’re able to consistently complete your exercises, your therapist can better understand:

  • How often you’re performing your exercises
  • Whether your symptoms are improving
  • If certain movements are causing discomfort
  • When it’s time to progress or modify your program

This information allows your treatment plan to evolve based on your real-world progress. Not just what happens during a one-hour appointment.

How Remote Monitoring Works

Getting started is simple.

After your evaluation, you’ll receive access to your personalized exercise program through the Wibbi app. Each exercise includes videos and instructions to help you perform them correctly. After each session, you’ll mark your exercises as complete and can provide feedback about how you’re feeling.

Your physical therapist reviews this information regularly to monitor your progress.

In addition to your treating therapist, another member of your care team may also help monitor your recovery. This monitoring therapist checks in periodically by phone or secure messaging, answers questions, and communicates with your primary therapist if adjustments to your program are needed.

Benefits of Remote Therapeutic Monitoring

RTM helps bridge the gap between appointments by keeping your care team involved throughout your recovery.

Some of the benefits include:

  • More personalized care based on your progress
  • Faster adjustments to your exercise program when needed
  • Better accountability with your home exercises
  • Improved communication with your care team
  • Support even when you’re not in the clinic

Rather than waiting weeks to make changes, your therapist has better insight into how your recovery is progressing and can make informed decisions that keep you moving toward your goals.

Why Logging Your Exercises Is Important

Completing your exercises is only part of the process.

Logging them in the Wibbi app allows your care team to accurately track your participation, monitor your progress, and determine when updates to your program are appropriate. Simply doing the exercises without recording them means your therapist misses valuable information that helps guide your care.

The more consistently you use the app, the more complete the picture of your recovery becomes.

Your Recovery Doesn’t Stop Between Visits

Healing isn’t limited to the time you spend in the clinic.

With Remote Therapeutic Monitoring, your physical therapy team stays connected to your progress, helping ensure your treatment plan continues to match your needs as you recover.

At Seattle Rehab Specialists, we believe great care extends beyond the treatment table. By combining in-person physical therapy with remote monitoring and communication, we’re able to provide a more connected, personalized approach to helping you move better and feel better.

If you’re beginning physical therapy with us, your therapist will explain how Remote Therapeutic Monitoring works and help you get started with your home exercise program so you can make the most of every step in your recovery.
